Cool analogue and digital games
Turns out I like games. Who knew, a human being enjoying the age-old past time of playing games. ¯_ (ツ)_/¯
After I got into video games, I naturally followed the analogue path, because of course I got tired of having my face on a screen for work and leisure.
So here's an incomplete list of the games I've been enjoying/exploring lately.
Analogue games
These are mostly card games that have solo variants. Board games are on the pricier side and my wallet is not about that life. When bought in Brazil, I've included the Brazilian publisher.
- Confusing Lands (Zak Eidsvoog, Envy Born Games): pretty quick gameplay as a solo game, harder to beat than it looks.
- Palm Island (Jon Mietling, Portal Dragon/PaperGames): this is so. much. fun. I loved it! It took me a while to get the hang of it, but it's so great!
- Defrag (Brandon McCool, Envy Born Games): 1 of 2 games on this list I haven't played yet but it didn't sit right with me leaving them out.
- Level 10 (Hisashi Hayashi, Pixel Series, Matagot/Across The Board): the 2nd game that hasn't been played.
- War Against the Evil Power Master ( Prospero Hall & Ket Ng, Z-MAN Games): I bought this one many years ago. Every time I play solo I lose, but I like it a lot. It's a Choose Your Own Adventure Book but adapted for cards and a lil board.
- Special mentions: Parade (Naoki Homma, Z-MAN Games/Fire on Board Jogos); not a solo game but I've had this for years (my first!) and it's a banger. And the Coquetel puzzles, a classic Brazilian collection of word puzzles and suchlike. It's official, I'm becoming and old lady.
Digital games
I have a huge backlog on Steam/GOG but now that I have a decent (mini) PC, I'll tackle them eventually. Meanwhile, I've prioritized playing recent purchases to actually play what I buy (I know, shocking). I play on PC/Switch/iOS. Check me out on Backloggd.
Idlers
- Spirit City: Lofi Sessions (Mooncube Games): my first idler/productivity companion game. It was very easy to get addicted. I love having it in the background while doing stuff.
- Mini Cozy Room (Jon Mietling, Portal Dragon/PaperGames) (Tesseract Studio, Nugem Studio): this is like Spirit City Pocket Edition. Super cute, I'm loving the music.
- Ropuka's Idle Island (Moczan, Little Chmura, Begoña Pereda): I love this little frog. I leave him minding things at night when I got to bed or leave the PC for a few hours.
- Tiny Pasture (Cave Liquid, Gamersky Games): super cute animals hopping around your desktop! It's easy to hide it when you don't want it onscreen too.
Video games
- Little Sim World (.GRAVITY): it has potential, though I'm not loving the characters movements. haven't played a lot of it yet.
- Cast n Chill (Wombat Brawler): I looooved this one. The first time I enjoy a fishing game... I love the pixel art style, the underwater look, and the music.
- The Sims 4 (Maxis/EA): a classic that despite all of its flaws is the best builder simulator for me. I don't play live mode often but I build a lot.
- Book of Travels (Might and Delight): an absolute beauty. It's still enjoyable even though it's abandonware at this point.
- Bandle Tale (Lazy Bear Games/Riot): sooo cute! The story is interesting and the whole thing is pretty. I'm loving it.
- Outlanders 1 (Pomelo Games): my obsession. I had to work hard to let it go.
- Outlanders 2: Second Nature (Pomelo Games): my second obsession. I just love this game. I wish it were more popular, and that we had O2 for PC.
- SumiSumi (Imagineer Co.): a fun mindless play on iOS, though I feel the levels are quite unbalanced. Very cute, though I'm not familiar with Sanrio characters.
- Ikenfell (Happy Ray Games/Humble Games): this looks sooo good and cute, I've just only began playing it but I'm intrigued. The story looks interesting and the gameplay seems easy enough for my dumb ass.
- Crime O'Clock (Bad Seed/Just for Games): I've been slowly making my way through this one, but I love the mix of Where's Waldo with time travel stories.
- Donut County (Ben Esposito/Annapurna Interactive): this is so fun! Not my favorite art style, but it has a wacky, fun story.
- Verne: The Shape of Fantasy (Gametopia Studios/WhisperGames): this game is beautiful and I'm enjoying the mechanics! I haven't played a lot but I'm intrigued by the story.
- Cozy Grove (Spry Fox/Quantum Astrophysicists Guild): one of the first games I purchased on my Switch. Been playing it ever seen. It puts me to sleep, I love it.
- Milk Inside a Bag of Milk Inside a Bag of Milk (Nikita Kryukov): what a beautiful, nightmarish trip this visual novel was. Played it twice just to be sure. I love short games.
- Milk Outside a Bag of Milk Outside a Bag of Milk ( Nikita Kryukov): haven't finished this one yet, but I'm really enjoying it so far.
- Hidden in my Paradise (Ogre Pixel): I thought I'd like this one better. It's still cute and fun but just didn't hold my attention.
- Carto (Sunhead Games/X.D. Network): I'm loving Carto! I love the little map puzzles, and the art style is beautiful.
- Penko Park (Ghostbutter): I've just played it for a little bit, but I really enjoyed the creepy critters. I don't know if it was a good idea having this on the Switch, I feel like I'd aim the camera better with a keyboard and mouse, but alas.
- Fall of Porcupine (Buntspecht Games/Assemble Entertainment): beautiful art, music and story. I'm so curious to see how it all ends. Though people compare it to Night in the Woods, I haven't played it yet. I'm enjoying FoP for what it is so far.
- Duck Detective: The Secret Salami (Happy Broccoli Games): what a little mystery game! Also, you can make the Duck Detective QUACK. 11/10.
