How to break up with someone you love
If you have the answer, please send me a letter, I greatly appreciate it. If you wanna remain anonymous or send me a cute doodle, you can head to my straw.page. And if you ask me if I spent a good hour of my afternoon tweaking with that page instead of facing my problems, you'd be absolutely right but I'd deny it until my death, so don't even try.
And if you need more context, what I can say is that this is a 10-year long relationship that started when I was 26, freshly returned to my hometown and determined to put down roots here, and mere months before my mom died. What else can I say? I'm ADHD, he's autistic. We've been living together since 2022 with our cats and a flatmate who needed a place to stay. I love him, he loves me, but at this point love isn't enough to keep a relationship going... You know, the Big Picture and The Future are looming over us. What that means for the most part is that we're not getting any younger and he's so set in his hyper specific interests ways that there really isn't a future where we can work things out, mostly financially speaking. And, what do you know, that impacts goals, living situations (present and future), quality of life, plans, and--most importantly--, retirement funds.
So yeah, maybe I became too jaded or cold or whatever, but becoming surrounded by old, retired family members and watching friends' lives unfolding in a very clear path for their future (good or... not so good I guess), I'm afraid I don't like what I see for myself in the long run where I'm at right now.
