Last days of spring (+ Kitty Update)

Kitty update

Earlier this morning, at about 6am, Tico-Tico passed away in the ICU. I had gone to see her yesterday during visiting hours. Even though she tried to escape her enclosure (weak as she was) I could see she was pretty exhausted.

The blood bag arrived after I left, and the transfusion went well.

My heart hurts. But I’m also relieved for her. It was too much suffering for such a little thing. Her owner is devastated, he wants to bury her in their yard but that won’t be possible. I’ve offered to keep her ashes if he chooses cremation, so he can bury that when he gets back to Brazil.

To everyone who donated and who had Tico-Tico in their thoughts: thank you. I can at least breathe with relief knowing we truly did everything humanly possible to save her.

Last days of spring

Those last few days of spring and these early summer days feel different.

My partner isn’t home. It’s the first time since I moved in with him (two and a half years ago?) where I am the one home, and not traveling god knows where. He’s decided to spend the holidays with his family in his hometown. It had been a few years since his last visit and he really wants to be with his grandparents more often. They’re both growing frail with age, and he loves them very much.

We’ve also had daily rain showers, which is not common at all for this time of the year here. Spring and summer are pretty similar, making up the part of the year we jokingly call Hell. It’s dry with pretty blue skies with not a cloud in sight and you find yourself wondering why is there one sun per person in here.

Not now, apparently. I woke up to a heavy rain hitting my bed (yes I sleep with the window open during the summer, no a/c for me) and scrambled to close the window.

Our world is changing. I think I’m gonna miss it when it’s gone.

Holiday celebrations

I know in other countries people celebrate Christmas on the 25th, but in Brazil we do Christmas Eve dinner and exchange gifts. Which makes it today. I'll be staying home alone this time around though. My flatmate will go to her parents', and my sister is gonna spend it with her boyfriend's family. And since my partner is at his mom's farm... Well, it'll be me and the cats.

I'm not mad about it. I don't really care for the holidays (just the food), and I'm currently obsessively reading The Kingdom of Copper by Shannon Chakraborty, the second book in the Daevabad trilogy. I'll take this time to just read away without interruptions and cuddle with my cats, which if you ask me, is a 10/10 holiday. I'll just miss the food.

Internet things

I'm slowly but surely organizing my book catalog on LibraryThing, I wanna have a pretty library database on librarycat to share with my friends and family.

I've also set up a cute bookmarks dump site using Start.me. Not sure if I'll keep it up, I might simply create a similar page on my Pixeliana website and have everything there.

And I can't believe I haven't mentioned this here before, but I created a page for me at folkmoss.space. It is my first domain purchase. I wanted it to look like a link-in-bio/omg.lol sort of thing, but since I already pay for Bear, I didn't see the point in paying for yet another service. I like the pretty bright colors against the dark background there.

I guess that's it for me. If this is my last post in 2025, happy holidays, everyone! This year has been an important one to me, in no small part due to Bearblog, its community and the indie web as a whole.

See you in the next one.
