List of things I love seeing in personal webspaces
This is a (non-exhaustive) list of things I love seeing in blogs/personal websites around the internet:
- Pets Pages: I am begging you to create a gallery/page for your pets. BEGGING YOU. Introduce them to me. Tell me their names, ages, preferences, quirks. I want to know them. I want to see them. SHOW THEM TO ME!
- Uses/Using Pages: I love to check out what people around the web are using in their daily lives. Apps, software, hardware: everything is interesting to me. Not only to find cool new stuff but also to glimpse at the person's life. It's fascinating, tbh.
- Arts and Crafts: Nothing makes me happier than clicking on a link and seeing a bunch of pics/scans of your personal art. Drawing, crocheting, knitting, painting. Digital or analog. Everything is fascinating. I've written about this before, but there is something endearing to me about amateur art making. I'm not looking for High-Brow-Super-Technical art. Leave that to the museums. I wanna see the museum of your heart.
- "Now" Pages: Apparently this is the new word people use for the old sidebar section that in my niche in the early aughts was called "Currently". What people are doing, reading, listening atm. Also a quick glimpse into that person's life and an opportunity to find something interesting for yourself, or even a conversation starter.
- Credits Pages: I cannot stress this enough: I am obsessed with credit pages. Please, please PLEASE tell me how you did the thing. Where you got it from. I want to know. I need to know!
- Resources Pages: This one connects with the Credits page; you may not have used a certain thing in your own webspace, but you think it's pretty cool and useful so you share it anyway.
- Blogroll/Postroll: I guess this is a given, but having a list of suggested reads is not only a great way to connect with others but also to expand other ppl's connections. Yes, I want to know what you've found interesting lately. I may even read it. We may even share a few postroll links. It's awesome.
- Pics: if you like sharing them, I wanna see them. It's simple as that. I think it's a lovely way of showing our little lives to others and keep this tiny digital scrapbook to ourselves, too.
- Rabbit-holes: I love when a website/blog has a bunch of interconnect pages. The more subpages, the merrier. I wanna open your Site Map and be flabbergasted at the amount of little nooks and cranies you've created for yourself and the things you love. Let me lose myself in your webspace for an entire hour, let me have multiple tabs open to different subpages. Give me this adventure.
There are many people around the internet that have websites with one or several things in this list. For your inspiration, here are just a few of my personal favorites:
- https://satyrs.eu: just open their website and get completely lost in the woods.
- https://smallcypress.neocities.org: the camera roll in the homepage is chef's kiss, and the amazing digital gardens (including a pets page!)... I love it.
- https://departure.blog: the amount of columns, links, quotes, resources? Fuck yeah.
- https://renata.haliya.net/: another beautiful space to get lost in; not only with personal stuff but a lot of resources too!
- https://amalinalai.github.io/precipice/: lina's slash pages are awesome, did you see her map of the internet??
- https://sneekrealm.neocities.org: I love the way sneek share their home-brew art and life with the internet, everything about their website is lovely.
- https://xavierhm.com/: I love the way Xavier organizes and shares his life through his website. So much content, so many things to discover in there!
- https://inkcaps.neocities.org: inkcaps is another place full of whimsy and pages to explore, with a lot of content and resources for the web enthusiast!
- https://blanketfort.neocities.org: adorable space, I love their cozy corner, just full of recs inspired by very specific moods.
- https://sweetfish.site: they have a lot of nooks and cranies around the website, and their screenshot garden is a blast.
Small Updates
I've created a Clippings page for The Logs. If you mention me in a blog post or postroll, feel free to send me the link! And I've also updated my Colophon page. There's cool stuff there too, you know.
Over at my Bibliography page, there are a few more posts added. One interesting highlight is Margaret Atwood falling in love with Claude (yes, the AI).
